Home     /     Blog     /     Geocell Installation: Expansion, Anchorage and Infill Checks
By Sofier

Geocell installation begins with creating and maintaining the expanded geometry required by the layout. HDPE ground stabilization geocells need a prepared support and a filling method that preserves the intended cell arrangement. The installation crew should know how panels are restrained and connected before infill is brought to the work area.

For inclined locations using slope protection geocells, anchorage and construction access require separate attention. This checklist describes inspection stages while leaving anchor design, spacing and compaction requirements to the approved project details. A generic geocell photograph cannot supply those site-specific instructions.

Release the supporting surface

Check preparation, levels and any specified separation layer. Identify obstacles or unexpected ground conditions for review before expanding panels. Keep the work area aligned with the accepted layout. Placing cells across an unresolved base problem does not demonstrate that the final system has the support assumed in the design.

Check expansion against references

Use the stated expanded dimensions and layout method. Inspect cell openings and boundaries while the assembly remains visible. Temporary positioning should maintain the accepted geometry without damaging seams. A shipping bundle can expand into different footprints, so panel appearance alone is insufficient evidence that the correct arrangement has been achieved.

Inspect restraints and connections

Confirm panel joints, edge treatment and required anchors before filling. On slopes, use the approved anchorage arrangement and safe working method. Do not derive anchor spacing from a different site's photograph. Record any changes to the restraint detail so that the final arrangement remains traceable to the accepted installation proposal.

Place infill under control

Follow the agreed sequence and use the specified material. Check that panel geometry and connections remain intact as filling progresses. Avoid uncontrolled equipment movement across exposed cells. Inspect an initial area before scaling up, allowing the crew to correct handling or filling issues while the cellular structure is still accessible.

Finish the inspection record

Verify infill levels, boundaries and any required surface finish. Retain photographs before and during filling, with panel identification and locations. Ask Suneco New Materials for product-specific expansion and connection guidance before installation planning, enabling the site method to reflect the actual cell geometry and accessories being supplied.
