Home     /     Blog     /     Grass Paving Grids: A Selection Guide for Permeable Landscapes
By Sofier

Grass paving grids combine a cellular surface with a specified infill and base. PP grass grid pavers are one option for projects seeking a planted appearance while accommodating defined use. The grid alone does not determine permeability, load capacity or grass survival, so selection starts with the complete surface arrangement.

For existing lawns or other reinforcement proposals, compare the intended role of lawn reinforcement grids. Reinforcing a lawn and constructing a new grass-paved area may involve different preparation. This guide explains the questions that help a buyer select a grid without overlooking the base, vegetation and maintenance requirements.

Classify the traffic

Describe vehicle types, frequency, turning movements and periods of stationary loading. Include construction access separately. A label such as car park can describe occasional overflow use or continuous daily use, which are not equivalent planting conditions. Give the surface designer a realistic operating description before comparing grid models and claimed capacities.

Review the base as a system

Provide the proposed subgrade and base layers together with the surface levels. Grid performance depends on support and installation conditions, not only on the plastic cells. If infiltration is part of the objective, check the complete route through the construction and into the ground. A permeable-looking surface can still overlie a layer that limits drainage.

Choose infill for the objective

Confirm whether the design uses grass-growing media, gravel or another approved infill. Describe the intended finished level within the cells. Infill influences appearance, drainage and maintenance, so it should be included in the specification rather than chosen casually on site. Avoid treating a change from grass to gravel as an unchanged landscape finish.

Allow for establishment and care

Identify seed selection, irrigation and the time needed before use under the landscape plan. Heavy or continuous traffic can affect vegetation independently of grid condition. Agree how bare areas will be repaired and how mowing will be carried out. A grid purchase should not be accompanied by an unsupported promise that grass will remain healthy without maintenance.

Create a complete selection brief

Send Suneco New Materials the traffic description, base section, desired infill and layout. Ask for grid dimensions, connectors, accessory requirements and relevant test information. Review offers against the same assembly so that panel price does not hide differences in coverage, support conditions or installation scope.
